It's Mental Health Awareness Week! I'll be running the Manchester 10k this coming Sunday in aid of C.A.L.M (www.thecalmzone.net), a superb local charity that help people felt depression! I'll also be doing the Great Northern 2 Mile Windermere swim in June and the Great Manchester 1 mile swim in July raising as much money for this great charity.
Alternative/complimentary therapies are a great way to help relax, clear your head and help fight any unwanted demons that may be lurking.

Being a bloke, working as a Holistic Therapist, who also goes for regular massage treatments I thought this article from my friends at Bali Health Lounge was a nice little read.
I also try and raise as much money as possible with my sponsored swims/runs for local based charity C.A.L.M which is a great charity aimed at preventing suicide in young males, the single biggest killer in men aged under 45 in the UK!
I'd actually say my client-base is pretty close to 50-50 male/female!
I think my main point with this post is, I, knowing full well as I've been there, know what it's like for a chap not wanting to talk about health and looking after yourself, as it's not very "manly". It is though isn't it? It is manly! Looking after yourself mentally & physically is something everyone should be doing, male & female. End of.

I've had a lot of eye opening Reiki sessions recently that have received such positive reactions from my clients so I thought I would post a link giving a quick explanation to what Reiki is and how it may be something you would like to try for yourself!
I was lucky enough to grow up around Reiki with my mum being a Reiki Master, if I banged my knee or stubbed my toe, i'd be running around swearing and my mum would be like "reiki reiki reiki". It was my mum and her friend Rowena - a Gendai Reiki Shihan (basically the bee's knees) who attuned me in my Reiki 1 & 2 a while back now - I'm looking forward to doing my Reiki Masters soon!

Chakras are energy points in specific places in the body that directly effect our being on multiple levels of existence. As the West comes to embrace Eastern philosophies and practices, chakras have become a topic of debate for many people. The chakras govern physical and intangible aspects of ourselves. Noticing them not spinning in alignment will have physical and spiritual sypmtoms.
There are ways to nurture them directly, but by treating the symptoms you can realign the source. There are seven main chakras in the body and like most formations of the body, they can fix themselves to an extent. The more you practice with them and actively care for their maintenance, the better they will function. The chakras are normally visualized as spinning balls of energy located along the spine at specific junctions.
Even if you don’t subscribe to notions of spirituality attached to chakras, they are still a great way to group together and connect physical, mental and emotional aspects of your being. There are many ways to correct the alignment of chakras, according to many schools of thought and disciplines. You can also ‘free style’ it as your connection and awareness build. Chakras are immersed in every aspect of our being, so there are many ways to effect them.
From music, to ecstatic dance action and intent can harmonize and bring dis balance to your life. I’ve listed the major chakras in ascending order with general information on each. Keep in mind that chakra energy flows from the bottom upward. So you may see issues with your throat chakra but you need to make sure all the chakras preceding it are in line first. Keep your eye out for the intermediate guide, in which we’ll specifically diagnose unhealthy chakra symptoms and how to fix them. Keep in mind that a basic visualizing meditation can go a long way in fixing the chakras.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a system of healing and treatment which has been practiced in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Often used for pain relief it is also used to treat a wide range of illness. A holistic therapy, the principle aim of acupuncture in treating the whole person is to recover the balance between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspect of the individual. According to traditional Chinese philosophy our health is dependant on the body's free flow of vital energy, known as QI. When this flow becomes blocked or unbalanced, illness can result. The insertion of tiny needles at various points on the body helps to stimulate the body's own healing response and restore the natural balance. Only the finest Serin needles from Japan are used ensuring treatment is as gentle as possible.
Is Acupuncture for you?
Acupuncture may help some conditions e.g. skin complaints, migraine, IBS, TMJ problems, back and rheumatic pain. These are just a few of the complaints acupuncture may alleviate, so please feel free to phone to discuss whether acupuncture can help your condition. Acupuncture may also help when you have no specific medical diagnosis but feel generally unwell or low in energy. Many people continue treatment as a preventative measure or to maintain good health.
The consultation involves discussing your presenting condition together with your past medical history. A tongue and pulse diagnosis is also made, helping the acupuncturist decide how best to help your body back on the path to well being. Acupuncture points may be selected on arms, feet, legs, and abdomen or back therefore some clothing may have to be removed; it is a good idea to wear loose fitting clothing. Length and frequency of treatment depends on the condition, but most people feel a benefit after 5 or 6 sessions.
